bloglessness.

I have decided that this will be (likely) my last blog entry.

With the new year approaching I'd like to spend my extra time and creative energy on some new projects. I won't say my blogging days are over but for now consider me gone.

I don't feel more connected, just more exposed. Seems dave was right.

just imagine these items are united as they were less than 12 hours ago...

i came home from work after lunch with mom & jenn to discover that my handmade wreath has been stolen! oms warned me this might happen.

well, i won't leave you on such a poopy note. so here is a picture from one of the team building/holiday parties we had at work:

it was my first time playing ANY instrument for an audience (drum circles don't count). my lessons certainly came in handy!

so i leave you for now and wish you all a joyful holiday.

how good it feels to have wrapped production and for things to have gone so well. the weather was good, i had an awesome crew and we all ate the most splendid food thanks to my sister. the mac n' cheese was a real hit so scroll down if you would like the recipe as it was requested by many folks.

these cans represent about 40 minutes of footage. i'll be shippng them off to toronto and getting them transfered to HD. i've seen a lot of stuff shot on super 16 that looks great so i'll be curious to see the kind of results i get with this combo.

and i have to give credit to my stills photographer, peter. he took most of the images you see on this post including this one which i will be using as the promo shot for this production:


i have less than two months to get this puppy through post so it can be screened at the IFCO digi-gala.

~ macaroni and cheese~
2.5 cups macaroni (uncooked)
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 pound velveeta, cubed
2/3 cup sour cream
1.33 cup cottage cheese
2 cups grated old cheddar
1.5 cups soft breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons butter
paprika (optional)

cook and drain macaroni and place in 2.5 L greased casserole. melt butter over medium heat, mix in flour. Add milk and stir constantly until sauce thickens. Add salt, sugar and cheese. Mix well. Mix sour cream and cottage cheese into sauce. pour over macaroni and mix well. sprinkle crumbs over top and dot with butter. [ May be frozen at this point ]. Bake at 350F for 45*50 minutes. Serves a crew of six.

eight fish forks.

when you are making a wee film, there are a ton of details that you need to concern yourself with. here's a sample of a few of my recent realizations and tasks:

- i only have four regular forks and to feed a crew of nine..that simply won't do. um, why does a vegetarian even *have* fish forks?

- becoming obsessed with the weather (on top of this suddenly freezing weather i have found out that the lead performer for my film has a cold);


- picking up half of the equipment. for this i needed to borrow a car and i have yet to figure out how to get this load of stuff back to the film co-op. my D.O.P. is bringing the other half of the stuff which is gonna cost me less than half of what was originally quoted - yipee!


i still have quite a few things to take care of tomorrow including meeting the actress, taking care of some accounting stuff and purchasing the celebratory alcohol. doesn't look like i'll be getting to a saturday morning yoga class this weekend...

you know what this means...it is official. ACTRA has approved my request to engage ms. morin. i do apologize for the wee image as she is lovely and deserving of something grander.

i ended up only auditioning three women today as there was yet another cancelation.

i was very impressed with the one who didn't even respond to my ad (thanks for the recommendation, lee). hopefully the union will let us work together. i will post a picture of her once it is a done deal.

feels like my legwork is paying off.

whatcha got?

tomorrow i have a few people to audition. there were five but one woman has backed out. perhaps i scared her off with the outline of what i was looking for:

"the audition will be casual but please bring a copy of your cv indicating any performance training/experience. i'd really like to focus on improvisational skills and the ability to hold a "conversation" without having a second actor present. specifically, the character in my film is an actress who will flee from a performance and the camera will follow her as she tries to explain to the camera/audience why she can not say the lines that she has been given. she struggles with verbalizing the conflict inside her - anything goes."

it is a good sign when people send me professional headshots. over half of those interested sent just snapshots - one woman even sent me pictures of her on vacation!

hopefully a lead that kelly was sweet enough to suggest will pan out but for now it feels a little like slim pickin'z.
